A sculpture shouting “it’s summer”
A little naked boy. A little naked boy with his hat. A little naked boy with his hat and a bunch of cobs between his hands. June: the month of harvest. June the harvester, the reaper. June the little reaper. The month when at noon the sun fills the streets with combs. The harvester made of marble who could be called June. The one who may have just picked the ears of corn, now he reverently leans over them and holds them gently, tenderly, almost embracing them, as if he is holding children or another body. He takes care of them by carefully tying the rope around them. It is his efforts on which he bends. We should love our efforts – as children or as other bodies. That makes sense. They will help us in difficult times. If we take care of them, we take care of ourselves. Maybe the little reaper wants to tell us something about it: about the children of the city who have lost touch with nature and its work, about the modern people who have learned to do everything easily and quickly, who want to exclude the toil from their daily life, which they expel as if it were an annoying summer fly or a foreign body. With this alienation, however, the psychological fatigue becomes much greater.
