A little boy – in physical dimensions – tries to pull the hook from the fish he has just caught, sitting on a rock. In front of it there is an artificial pond. The surroundings look natural. Fun facts: a) on the rock where he sits is the repousse of a crab b) the back of this sculpture will compensate you as the boy’s spine is impressively well done, with absolute precision and detail.
Fishing in the city
Who would have expected to find a fisherman in the city? And even more, a little fisherman with his own lake, his own rock and his own trees? An entire natural environment of his own. Environments like this you do not encounter in the center of Athens – the most common is to meet a fountain. And you would still not find them if this sculpture did not exist. The little fisherman is the proof that sometimes it is the need that shapes the environment and not the other way around. So here too, first the fisherman was created and then the lake, where the fish he will catch fell into.No matter how wrong everything around you is, if you need a lake to fish and a rock to get the fish off the hook, then you can do it! Or if, for example, you need a fairer and more solidary world, while everything around you is sinking into ugliness, then you can try for it. We do not always have to adapt to the environment. It is worth changing it in relation to what we would like or need. Obviously the more we gather for the same purpose, the better. Just in the case of the little fisherman it happened to be a marble sculpture in the garden of Zappeion…
